Renewable = which can be used again eg. wind, water, energy from sun.
Non-renewable = which cannot be used again eg. coal, petroleum.

Renewable energy is the direction we should be heading in, this will not only clean up the environment but create millions of green jobs too. It's time people participated in the discussion on green energy and adopted it in a big way.
renewable resources are resources that... can.. be renewed. such as water, carbon, coconuts, etc.. nonrenewable resources are resources that cannot be replaced anymore. such as petroleum, etc..

Nonrenewable energy is energy that can not be replenished in a short period of time, such as fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas)

Renewable energy is energy from Natural Resources that can be replenished in a short period of time, such as solar, wind, tidal and geothermal energy.

As for nuclear energy, it is debatable. According to the definitions above it is clear that nuclear energy is nonrenewable. However, on the other side it may be considered almost as renewable energy source because of:

  • The availability of tremendous resources of uranium
  • The availability of producing nuclear fuel ( plutonium and uranium-233) in some nuclear reactor types (fast and thermal breeder reactors) that may exceed the consumed nuclear fissile fuel.
  • The prospects of the nuclear fusion as source of energy (although by definition is nonrenewable energy source) which could add high potentials to nuclear energy resources.
