By definition, an imperial gallon of water weighs 10 pounds. 1 cubic foot is 6.22883 imp gal, so 62.2883 pounds. 16 ounces in a pound, so we get 62.2883x16 = 996.6128 or about 997 ounces.
Using a different sequence of conversions gives 999 ounces. The answers vary because the density of water varies with temperature.

∙ 11y agoEach cubic inch of water weighs roughly two thirds of one ounce. To prove this statement, the following:
One fluid pint is made of 16 fluid ounces. The [cubic inch] volume of a pint is 28.8750000001267 cubic inches (which to simplify matters, we will round this number to the nearest thousandths place; doing so gives us the easier used number 28.875). If we use water for the density (the constant being that the water is purified, and has the temperature of 34*F, and is at sea level), the answer becomes 0.554 (roughly 2/3) ounces per cubic inch of water.
