A fax machine is considered both an input and output device. It receives data as input (the document being faxed) and sends the data as output to another fax machine.
Fax-to-email services offer convenience by allowing users to send and receive faxes directly from their email inbox, eliminating the need for a physical fax machine. This method also reduces paper waste and provides a digital record of all fax communications.
Thermal receipt paper and thermal fax paper are similar in that they both utilize heat to create images, but they are not the same. Thermal receipt paper is typically lighter weight and used for printing receipts from point-of-sale systems, while thermal fax paper is designed for transmitting faxes through thermal fax machines. They can differ in size, coating, and sensitivity to heat.
A facsimile machine, commonly known as a fax machine, is a device used for sending and receiving scanned documents over a telephone line. It converts documents into electronic images that can be transmitted to a recipient's fax machine, where they are printed out. Fax machines were widely used before email and digital scanning became more common for document transmission.
It's very important to know there is two types of 'tattoo copier': 1. Fax machine type - this is the most common 2. Thermal-Copier using IR Heat lamp and rollers (much more expensive but much better) Fax machine types with like the old thermal fax machine, using a thermal head. Problems: Head often is not hot enough so designs are faint/ don't work or the whole machine is a dud. most are Chinese so that says it all. IR (Infra Red) Thermal-Copiers use a heat lamp inside a reflector and require a carrier to hold the tattoo paper as it passes through the machine - they are MUCH hotter and have a speed dial to adjust the speed/ temperature. This type is much more expensive, but work on all types of tattoo paper and are for studio use. If you buy a cheap fax machine type copier then expect cheap patchy results. You get what you pay for in this field. Speaking from experience here (bought too many cheap fax machine types and finally got a proper one) Dibbo
reference: ftp://ftp.faximum.com/pub/faqs/fax/fax-faq unfortunately CNG tones are only required if the fax machine is working in 'autmoatic mode'. If a person is manually faxing the standards do not require a CNG tone to be generated by the fax machine. This causes problems for some voice+fax services that rely on detecting the fax tone to switch their system to fax recipt mode.

In the far past, the fax machine was a service operated like a telegram service - fax services had dedicated stations to send and receive images. In the 1960s, the first "commercial" fax machines emerged. These went from big bulky units that needed to be hardwired in (most people installing or even demonstrating a fax had to physically wire in a phone line - phone jacks weren't common even then). Through the 80s and 90s the fax was the cornerstone of business, the email of the day.

There is currently no "official" answer for this. Telegram service was introduced in the 1950s. Telex services were introduced in 1971. The use of a modern day fax machine could have arrived any time after it was implemented by Xerox in the 1960s, as it worked over regular phone lines and there was no "service" that needed to be installed.
