Nuclear energy has the most potential by far............
Nuclear Energy has always been controversial, yet it can be a reliable primary energy resource to countries while not creating any C02 emission. Still many people don't realize this and think nuclear plants is no different from having nuclear weapons. Nuclear is slightly dangerous but it is a good reliable resource because there are no varibles and it can be in any climate from Seattle to Cairo. Nuclear is becoming safer. There have only been 2 nuclear accidents in History, how is that for safe. 22% of the United States power comes from 109 nuclear power plants. This alternative energy also has 250 reactors in 22 different countries.
Nuclear energy has become the worlds primary alternative energy source, and would probably become the worlds leading energy resource if not for one limiting factor, price. Nuclear power plants cost around 10 billion dollars to build over a three year time span at approximately 2,000 dollars per kilowatt producing capacity for some of the newer plants. This means that nuclear power is only produced in developed countries mainly in Europe and North America a primary example of which is France which gets more than 70% of its total power from nuclear. Once plants are built they take an extremely small amount of money to operate at only 1.68 cents per kilowatt hour which is significantly less than other alternative energy sources. Solar cost around 38 cents per kilowatt hour and wind cost around 11 cents per kilowatt hour. Since the building cost for nuclear power is much larger than other energy resources it is usually used for large organizations or cities.
One of the reasons nuclear power is so expensive is because there is a long process with many steps. Nuclear plants can create so much power because of these steps. nuclear energy uses the process of fission to create a lot of energy from matter. an excess amount of neutrons are released from the reactor. which creates a chain reaction, alowing scientists to design reactors that create reactions that sustain themselves, creating a continuous flow of energy. the nuclear fission creates heat which heats water and turns it into steam. the steam then turns turbines attached to a generator. the water is than cooled in the cooling towers than turns the steam back to its liquid form and the cycle starts over. there are 2 different types of nuclear power plants, boiling water reactor (BWR) and pressurized water reactors (PWR). in a PWR the heat generated from the core reactor transfers haet to a boiler which turns water to steam and in a BWR the water is turned into steam inside of the reactor.
conclusion-
nuclear energy is a very reliable power source, though it is still a controversal idea, because of all of the threats it poses. we musn't forget that nuclear energy still has many benefiets, over the other energy sources, such as it is reliable, and not directly bad for the environment. nuclear energy has many appliances, such as submarines, spaceships, and soon maybe personal vehicles because of its versitality. it is a risky idea, but nuclear energy deserves a chance, and in times like these, new ideas are needed. For us to stay alive.
