Janka wood hardness scale - The Janka rating is a measure of the amount of force it takes to push a .444" diameter steel ball half way into a piece of wood. The speed of growth of a tree can effect the Janka rating.

The Shore A hardness scale has been used for decades to characterize the relative hardness of flexible PVC. Rigid PVC should be measured by the Shore D durometer.

Polyvinyl chloride is a linear structure . PVC itself is hard and rigid in its pure form. But when additional substances are added to it , it becomes soft. Hardness of PVC is R105.
