If the Earth did not rotate, then the Foucault pendulum
would not do what it does. But it does, so it does.

How do we know that it's the earth moving and not something else?

Perhaps the first physical experiment that proved rotation of the earth was Foucalt pendulum. Well aligned pendulum always oscilates in the same plane. As the Earth rotates below it, during the day rotation becomes visible (search e.g. Wikipedia for further reference). Today there are many more sofisticated experiments that can prove movements of the Earth. For example we can measure shift in wavelengths of light emited by stars as we move toward them on our orbit around the Sun (Doppler effect).

How can you prove that that the earth is a sphere by looking at the pole star?

how can you prove that earth is a sphere by looking at the pole st

How can you prove if the earth really rotates?

Simply by observing the position of celestial objects such as the sun & stars ! If the Earth didn't rotate, the sun would be in exactly the same position each day, and the side of the planet away from the sun would be frozen ! Additionally, if the earth wasn't rotating, the stars would be in exactly the same places in the night-sky !

How did Copernicus prove that the earth wasn't in the middle of the universe?

Galileo did not prove that Earth was not flat (It had already been agreed that it was round). Galileo invented the telescope and used it to prove that there were objects which did not orbit the Earth, supporting Copernicus' Heliocentric model for the universe. The Earth was known to be round by the ancient Greeks, but I do not who it found out initially (sorry).

How can we prove that earth is round for kids?

There are wonderful pictures from space of earth. In them you can see it is round. The Ancient Greeks knew it was round.

Who is the French Physicist who constructed a pendulum that helped to prove the earth rotates?

Jean Foucault

How did Jean Foucault proved that the earth is rotating?

A2. Foucalt invented the Foucalt Pendulum, by observing that a long massive pendulum would rotate gradually, its plane of oscillation. Of course, the plane of oscillation is not moving - it is the earth that is moving.I remember a fine Foucalt Pendulum display at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. Well worth the 10 min or so to watch its progression. At the poles, the period of a full rotation of the pendulum's plane will be 24 hours. At the Equator, the plane of the pendulum will remain fixed.A1. He is wrongly credited with inventing the "Gyroscope". It also is used to prove that the Earth Rotates.

How can you prove that the earth rotates on its axis?

we can prove that the earth rotates on its axis because we experience day time and night time/their is a change from day time to night time / night time to day time....

Who was the person to prove that the earth rotates?

Jean-Bernard-Leon Foucalt, in the 19th Century

What was used to prove that the earth rotates?

One method that was used by the early Greeks was the Sun Dial.

What evidence is there to prove earth rotates counter clockwise?

We know that the Earth rotates west to east (causing the sun to rise in the east and set in the west). And if you look down at the earth from the North pole, it will be rotating counter clockwise. if you look up at the earth from the south pole, then the earth will be rotating clockwise.

How do you prove that the earth moves?

Build a very large pendulum and set it in motion. Then observe, think and explain what you observe over the course of a day.

What renaissance astronomer attempted to prove that the earth rotates around the sun but was afraid of getting in trouble with the catholic church so he called it a theory?

I think you are referring to Nicolaus Copernicus.

What is found on the surface that proves the sun rotates?

Scientists were able to prove that the Sun rotates by observing the movement of sun spots over time.

Is The Earth Flat(For All The Idiots Out There)?

By watching as the Earth also rotates from that view, you can see that the Earth is a rotating sphere and is not flat. Image by NASA. Like the other planets, the Earth is a sphere. It rotates around its own axis slowly but continuously, and completes this rotation about once every 24 hours.

What two forces are balanced in geostrophic flow The Winds well above the surface in the middle latitudes are nearly in geostrophic balance How does this prove that the Earth rotates on its axis?
