Lets assume the molecules in the liquid have a certain kinetic energy: E = 0.5mv2

If the liquid is heated, more energy is given to the molecules so their kinetic energy is increased. If their kinetic energy is increased, and their mass remains constant, then their velocity must have also increased according to the above equation.

Faster, because there are collisions between the particles in the warm air and the particles in the cold butter, and there is a transfer of energy from warm to cool. So as the butter particles become warmer they move faster.

One thing that complicates this is that some of the "molecules" of butter are water; up to about 15% in most commercial butter ("home-made" butter typically has an even higher water content).

The butterfat molecules are significantly more massive than water (exactly how much varies, since "butterfat" refers to any of a number of compounds, but molecular weights of around 800 aren't at all unreasonable; for comparison, the molecular mass of water is about 18). Since the average molecular speed at a given temperature depends on the square root of the molecular mass, the heavier butterfat molecules move slower than water molecules at the same temperature (by a factor of roughly 6-7).

Faster because as the butter changes from a solid to a liquid its particles move faster.

Yes because particles in liquids have more space to move freely while a solid's particles are compacted into a tight space and scarcely move.

What will happen when atom and molecules of substance melt freeze boil or condense?

When a substance melts, the molecules move more freely and when it freezes, they move more slowly. When a substance boils and becomes a vapor (gas), the molecules again move faster than when in the liquid state, and when the vapor condenses, the molecules move slower.

Why does ice cream melt slower than sherbet?

It's because sherbert ice cream is more of a water base (juice) which melts faster. Dairy base ice cream are usually made from egg yolk, cream, milk, and sugar. Yolks, cream, and milk have high fat content which makes them melt slower than water base ice cream which melts faster.

does butter melt faster than ice cream?

Butter melts faster than ice because fats in the butter require less energy to move up a degree when compared to ice

Do molecules gain or lose energy from melting?

When matter melts (changes from a solid to a liquid state), its molecules move faster, meaning they are gaining energy.
