Edwin hubble Although Edwin Hubble was one of the great astro-physicists of the 1900s, he did not invent the motion picture. The technology to record motion with film was independently achieved by Louis LePrince in 1888, William Friese-Greene in 1889, W. Dickson (working under Thomas Edison, who contributed nothing to Dickson's work beyond a place and funding to do so) in 1891, and the Lumiere Brothers in 1893. Edison might well have been the only one who saw the commercial value of this technology.
