it is actually using newton's 2nd law: Now, F=mv/t; in an air bag it basically increases tsince v and m cannot be controlled. v = velocity, m= mass, t = time. The air bag increases the time of impulse, therefore decreasing the force.

When an airbag must be deployed, it is for the safety of the passenger or driver in the car. The

air bag acts as the outside force in protecting the passengers or driver from being thrown

through the windshield. The person is in motion until stopped by the airbag. so mainly when an object is at rest it will remain at rest until an outside force acts on it as you see in this example.

Newton said that when there's one impact there has to be a second (action/reaction). An airbag allows the second impact (your face against it) to decelerate your face at a much slower rate than when your face hits the dash board or the windshield.
