The fission of uranium 235, which produces heat
In a nuclear power plant, the heat energy produced by nuclear reactions is used to generate steam by heating water. The steam drives turbines connected to generators, which then produce electricity. This process is a way of converting the heat energy from the nuclear reactions into electrical power.
A nuclear power plant uses a slow, controlled nuclear chain reaction to heat water and generate electricity. A nuclear bomb uses a very rapid uncontrolled nuclear chain reaction in order to generate a massive explosion.
A nuclear fission reaction occurs in a nuclear power plant. This is the process where the nucleus of an atom is split, releasing large amounts of energy in the form of heat, which is used to generate electricity.
Nuclear power is currently the most powerful electricity source in terms of energy density and capacity to generate large amounts of electricity consistently. It relies on the nuclear fission process to produce heat, which is then converted into electrical energy.
The Bataan nuclear power plant uses nuclear fission as the nuclear reaction to generate electricity. In nuclear fission, the nucleus of an atom is split into two smaller nuclei, releasing a large amount of energy, which is harnessed to produce electricity.
It is a lot more complicated than this, but to give you an example, here is one nuclear reaction that is used to generate electricity. 235U + neutron --> 236U --> 89Kr + 144Ba + 3 neutrons + 177 MeV
the atoms split and cause a chain reaction

I would imagine it is since the goal of an electric plant is to give off energy, and exothermic reactions release entergy. Both fusion and fission, the two major nuclear reactions, are exothermic.
It is nuclear fission
Nuclear Reaction: A Nuclear reaction in the nuclear core generates great amounts of energy in the form of heat. This energy is used to heat up water to steam to drive a steam turbine engine which generates rotary motion to a shaft which is mechanically connected to turn an Alternator which generates the electrical power.
We use nuclear fission in nuclear reactors to tap nuclear energy.

Depends on the amount of electrical energy they (need to) generate. How much does the average nuclear plant generate ? How much does the average coal plant generate ?
