because they are strong!
You don't have to be strong to lie on a bed of nails. The trick is a combination of pain control and physics.
The pain control comes from the ability to ignore mild pain and the physics comes from the distance that the nails are spaced which evenly distributes the pressure of the weight put on them over a wide area which prevents the skin from being punctured.
a bed of nails has lots of points that are close together -- there's a lot of surface area for the body to cover. Hundreds of nails support the weight of your body instead of just one. The resulting force is distributed over all of the nails, so you shouldn't be injured.
When lying on a bed of nails, the person's weight is distributed across multiple nails, reducing pressure on any single point. The nails are also blunt and closely spaced, so they disperse the force exerted by the body. This allows the person to distribute their weight evenly across the nails, minimizing the risk of injury.
When a balloon is placed on a bed of nails, the weight from the nails is evenly distributed across the surface of the balloon, minimizing the pressure on any individual point. This reduces the risk of the balloon popping. Additionally, the weight of the pile of weights on top of the balloon also helps to distribute the pressure evenly, further lowering the risk of popping.
The weight of the fakir's body is spread out over a large number of nails, reducing the pressure on each nail. This allows the fakir to distribute their weight evenly and prevent any single nail from piercing their skin. Additionally, the fakir may be using special techniques or mental focus to control their pain perception.
The average is 120/600 = 0.2 pound per nail = 3.2 ounces per nail.If the nail tapers to a point that's only 1 mm in diameter, then 0.2 pound on that pointrepresents a pressure of 3,226 pounds per square inch, which might still cause somedistress against the skin. Better to use very blunt nails.
To penetrate is to get inside, to enter. Penetration is the act of getting inside. For example, "Our house is poorly insulated; cold air penetrates from the outside." Or, "We have to take steps to prevent penetration of our secret service by enemy spies." Or, "It is possible to lie on a bed of nails without any of the nails penetrating the skin."
file them
Because there are so many nails that each one only has to carry a little weight, small enough not to hurt the skin. It's like walking barefoot on gravel - uncomfortable but it doesn't hurt you. One piece, sticking up - that'd hurt though.
i think its a bed of nails
No one is recorded in the Bible as sleeping on a bed of nails.
It's all about pressures. If you step on ONE nail, then that nail has to carry ALL your weight, so it goes into your skin. If you lay on a bed of nails then every nail only has to carry a fraction of your weight, which your skin can take.
A person can lie down on a bed of nails as the bed is large and the force is distributed evenly on the bed. Thus, making a much smaller pressure.
Sure. It's not going to hurt anything. I've worn them to bed.
that would be a bed of nails
I would say that lying on a bed of nails would be less painful, as your weight would be more evenly distributed over a larger surface area.

They are too closely spaced.
