Lemurs help new plants grow by dispersing seeds that pass through their digestive systems after they eat. Lemurs play a key role in the health of Madagascar's tropical rainforests. Unlike other parts of the world where most seed dispersal is done by birds, rodents, ungulates, and bats, lemurs appear to be the most important seed dispersers in Madafgascar.
The temperature range for lemurs depends on the species. The ring-tailed lemur has been observed in mountainous regions that drop several degrees below 0° C (32° F), but also live in some of the hottest parts of the island (the spiny forests). Other lemurs, such as the ruffed lemurs, live in the rainforests where it is warmer year-round.
In Madagascar.
Lemurs are NOT monkeys (so they cannot be New World nor Old World monkeys); they are prosimians. Prosimians are found in the Old World.
Ring-tailed lemurs are the most terrestrial of lemurs (meaning they spend more time on the ground that other lemurs), but they also can be found in the canopy and understory.
Ring-tailed lemurs are related to sloths.
Like all lemurs, the ring-tailed lemur is endemic to Madagascar. However, it can also be found in zoos and other captive settings around the world.
