A tonne of fertilizer costs about $200. The nutrient composition NPK is nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. The percentages of compounds including these three elements are indicated on commercial fertilizer (e.g. 10-18-10 is 10% nitrates, 18% phosphates, 10% potassium compounds, usually potash).

In the US, farmers usually order custom blended fertilizer so they only have to make one trip across the field, with possibly a second mid-season for some additional nitrogen. Prices can vary wildly from year to year and in different regions.

However, compositions are relatively standard. A few standard ones are:

Urea - 46% N

Triple Super Phosphorus - 45% P

Potash - 60% K

Monoammonium Phosphate - 11% N, 52% P

Diammonium Phosphate - 18% N, 46% P
