While the answer below is pretty close it's not quite accurate. Hybrids are not created as a means of variety purity as is implied below. Hybrids are created because among some species of plants the crossing of two inbreds produces a plant that is far superior to any inbred thus it produces more grain, fruit, flowers, etc. While the comment about royalties is very cute (royalties aren't paid on genetics lines but typically on traits or GMO seed but that's for a different discussion), the truth is is that with hybrid crops, such as corn, the cost of developing hybrid seed is so incredibly high due to continuous testing of thousands upon thousands of inbred crosses coupled with the high cost of producing hybrid seed once a favorable cross is found would NOT be cost effective for a farm operation, in any way shape or form. Hope this clears up some confusion.

normally i would add my answer below the former answer but it is wrong and misleading so i choose the add mine above it. when someone, for example a seed company, spends many years and lots of money on cultivating a new variety they need a measure that makes sure they will be payed royalties for the new variety other wise it would never be worth while doing it. one of the most common ways to do so is called hybrids of F1 seeds. what the cultivator does is find two parent lines which are geneticly pure (most often achieved by self pollination for several generations) who's offspring is the variety sold. since the parent plants are true homozygots each of their gamets (reproduction cells like pollen or ovary) are identical and so the seeds formed from the crossing are identical. the ones formed in the field and not. that way if the farmer wants to ensure he gets the right variety he would have to purchuse new seeds each time he wants to sow for if he would use the seeds formed in the field (which are the same as the seeds you get from fruit in the supermarket) he would get different, and probably infirier, varieties. this way everybody wins: the cultivator gets paid for his work, the farmer can be assured of quality plants, and the consumer gets a better product when he wants it.

ever wondered how come you can find tommatoes on the market year round? after all they are a summer fruit. same with cucumbers, bell peppers and so on. the sweetness in sweet corn is also a result of the same method. zaf.

  • they are modified crops that grow with some chemacial to make them better

What are hybrid crops?

A hybrid has the genetics of both of its originating crops but may have complete unique outward characteristics. This is because two hidden recessive genes from the two originating crops can be combined to produce an outward visible effect in the hybrid.

What developed hybrid crops?

Developed hybrid crops are created through controlled crossbreeding of different plant varieties to combine desirable traits such as increased yield, disease resistance, and improved nutritional content. This process often involves traditional breeding methods as well as modern techniques like genetic engineering. Notable examples include hybrid corn and hybrid rice, which have significantly contributed to food production and agricultural efficiency. These crops play a crucial role in enhancing food security worldwide.
