Any type of soil except enriched soil. Be sure not to plant it in too deep, or it won't grow as well. Also, the plant will grow better if you change the soil every 2 or 3 years.

How does a Venus Flytrap get its food and energy?

The fly trap survive off of flys and can survive without light but this isn't optimal. For the fly trap to survive for a long period of time they have to have a dormancy period every year that lasts three to five months. Without this it will weaken and die. Fly traps can also live through frost and light freezes. Freezes that last an extended period of time can kill a fly trap however.

Do Venus Flytraps exist?

Yes. They both consume and photosynthesise. Though photosynthesis does not produce quite enough energy to survive it does provide most of the energy needed. The trapping and consuming of flies and other small insects are produced into "food" for the plant.

What kind of soil does the Venus Flytrap grow in?

The Venus Flytrap is a small plant whose structure can be described as a rosette of four to seven leaves, which arise from a short subterranean stem that is actually a bulb-like object. Each stem reaches a maximum size of about three to ten centimeters, depending on the time of year; longer leaves with robust traps are usually formed after flowering. Flytraps that have more than 7 leaves are colonies formed by rosettes that have divided beneath the ground.Venus Flytraps are small plants. They consist of several stems pointing upward, and at the end of each one is a trap. The trap looks like two flat circles, attached to each other like a hinge where they meet the stem. Around the edge of the trap, there are long, needle like projections that function as the triggers for the trap, interlock when the trap closes. You can see a photograph of a Venus flytrap by visiting the related link.It looks like a series of mouths with no eyes and hairs in the mouth.
