If we're using Dante's version of Hell/Limbo, then Limbo was reserved for virtuous pagans. This usually meant people who were generally good but had no knowledge of Christianity and therefore, can't go to Heaven but aren't condemned to Hell.
In short, according to Dante, people who would be in Limbo are Virgil, Homer, Socrates, Aristotle, etc. All of these people lived before the time of Christ and therefore, had no knowledge of Christianity, etc.

In Dante Alighieri's "Inferno," the first circle of Hell, known as Limbo, is home to virtuous non-Christians and unbaptized infants. A famous resident of this circle is the ancient Roman poet Virgil, who serves as Dante's guide through Hell. Other notable figures in Limbo include philosophers like Socrates and Plato, as well as historical figures such as Homer and Julius Caesar. They are not punished but live in a state of longing for God, as they did not have the opportunity for salvation.
In Dante's "Inferno," the noble castle in the first circle of Hell is Limbo, where virtuous pagans and unbaptized individuals reside. These souls are not tormented but still lack the joy of God's presence in heaven. Limbo serves as a place of comfort compared to the other circles of Hell.

The five people taken from Limbo in Dante's Inferno are Homer, Horace, Ovid, and Lucan—classical poets—as well as Virgil, Dante's guide through Hell and Purgatory in the poem. These figures were considered virtuous pagans who lived before the time of Christ and therefore resided in Limbo, the first circle of Hell according to Dante's depiction.
