At certain times Rome was a center for artists and scholars in particular during the Augustinian age. It was during that time that a scholar could find a patron or an artist could find work. However Alexandria was the place that was better known s a center for scholars. The great Library of Alexandria was not just the world's largest collection of books. It also had its "museo" which could loosely be compared to our present day universities. Research and study was carried on there in the fields of mathematics, medicine, various types of inventions and scholarly research.

The sources that inspired the Renaissance artists and scholars was human life, and they used perspective. Perspective is a way of showing the depth and distance on a flat surface.
