I am a poet and not quite yet a published author, but I find that poetry and writing is used to express one's feelings in a way they cannot in a literal term. They express their feelings to reveal more about themselves to others, and sometimes to get a message out that the whole world needs to hear. Sometimes it can be used to have a say in the world, to get yourself heard.
