There are 3 types of Ebola Marburg, Sudan, and Zaire.
The book starts with a french man living in Africa who contracts the disease from a cave he visits on New years. He ends up getting Ebola. His eyes turn bright red, he has headaches, nausea, and basically all his insides turn to liquid. He "bleeds out" (throws up blood and black particles and explodes blood and black out of his butt and mouth) in a airport after being sick on a plain and throws up on the Dr treating him.
He dies quickly after. The Dr gets sick too but somehow recovers quickly.
Later on people are doing studies on monkeys and figure out that the disease is airborne. Monkeys from one cage get sick from monkeys across the room in another cage. 90% of people who got Ebola died. But the disease couldn't have come from monkeys because the monkeys died so quickly the virus couldn't have evolved long enough to be able to infect humans. A scientists brother ends up dieing from the disease.
The end they say disease is like nature's immune system. It takes out humans who threaten and break it down. Also, that diseases float around and return over and over in different places and years. It can spread quickly because of air travel. It keeps population in check but, could one day destroy us completely.
