The symbolism in which an author uses when choosing a name for his/her characters.
For example; An author may name a character "John Goodman" because the first name is a solid name, and the last name suggests that he is a "good man".
The references or symbols can be as cheesy and obvious as that one, or more in-depth and cryptic. An accomplished author doesn't just name their characters random names.
Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities beyond their literal meaning. It allows for deeper layers of meaning to be conveyed in literature, art, or other forms of communication.
