Grendel's weakness in the Anglo-Saxon epic Beowulf is his vulnerability to weapons, particularly the sword that Beowulf uses to defeat him. Due to a curse placed on Grendel's ancestor Cain, he is unable to be harmed by conventional weapons made by men.
