The three types of elections in Arizona are primary elections, general elections, and special elections. Primary elections are held to select party candidates for the general election. General elections determine who will hold office. Special elections are called to fill vacant offices or vote on specific issues outside the regular election cycle.
If elections are not held regularly (and with certainty), then there is no assurance that one of the main democratic mechanisms, voting, will actually be useful and this would undermine the ability of the people to control their officials.
Private elections refer to voting processes that are conducted within a specific group or organization, where only members of that group or organization are eligible to participate. These elections are not open to the public or the general population. They are typically used to make decisions within the group or organization, such as choosing leaders or approving policies.
Democratic elections are characterized by the participation of citizens, respect for civil liberties, and the presence of multiple political parties competing fairly. Nondemocratic elections, on the other hand, are often marred by restrictions on participation, lack of political freedoms, and manipulation or control by a ruling elite or single party.
The Philippines holds national elections for the President, Vice President, Senators, and members of the House of Representatives. There are also local elections for governors, mayors, and other local officials. Additionally, there are barangay (village) elections for barangay captains and councilors.
