Socrates might agree with Bertrand Russell that philosophers may not be able to provide certain answers to questions of reality. Socrates believed in the importance of questioning and critical thinking, leading to deeper understanding rather than having absolute certainty. He valued the process of seeking wisdom over claiming to have all the answers.
Socrates believed that the primary pursuit of material wealth can corrupt a person's moral character by prioritizing personal gain over virtue. While some may argue that wealth can enhance one's life and opportunities, Socrates emphasized the importance of cultivating wisdom, justice, and self-control as the true measures of a person's worth and integrity.
These were the the "fathers of philosophy", Socrates being the first. Plato was a student of Socrates and Aristotle was a student of Plato. Their philosophies differed a bit but they did agree that a life of reason is the happiest and best life.
The Oracle of Delphi was asked if anyone was wiser than Socrates, to which the Oracle responded that there was not. Socrates claims to have been bemused by this as he always said he knew nothing. However he accepted that the god cannot lie, so he set out to expose false knowledge.

Socrates is famous in part for claiming ignorance, not knowledge. In fact, with respect to causal knowledge or knowing why, he is reported by Plato to have said that it was so impossible that he gave up what we would call science because of it. .

The answer to this question depends on who is asked it. Most would agree that Socrates was one of the most influential and brilliant philosophical scholars to have ever lived, however. He is considered the Founder of Western Philosophy and the first of the "Big Three."
