A Dictatorship is, by definition, the autocratic rule of a single person making all decisions. Under this government, the general population is subject to whatever whim striked the dictator at any given moment. Generally, dictators severely limit freedom and liberty, and may also use brutal violence to keep the population under his/her control.

In general, the underlying philosophy of most world countries is that the people as a whole should have some voice in determining the rules and laws of their country, whether through referendums or democratic elections.
