No, Giuseppe Zangara was not executed for murdering the mayor of Chicago. He attempted to assassinate Mayor Anton Cermak in 1933 but instead shot Cermak and several others. Zangara was convicted and executed for Cermak's murder, which he did not survive long enough to directly carry out against the mayor. He was executed in 1933, just over a week after the shooting.
