First was Boris Yeltsin from 1991-1996. Viktor Chernomyrdin was acting president for part of November 1996, and then Boris Yeltsin served again until 1999. In 1999 Vladimir Putin became president until 2008 when he was succeeded by Dmitri Medvedev, who is currently serving.
