"separation of church and state" is not a constitutional principle, that's an idea from groups such as the ACLU. The framers of the constitution wanted to prevent a State sponsored church, such as the Church of England. What SHOULD be the problem with a religious group joining together to promote their goals? It certainly seems to be acceptable for Athiests, unions, baby killers and any other group of like-minded people.
"The phrase separation of church and state is generally traced to a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802 to the Danbury Baptists, in which he referred to the First Amendment of the United States Constitution as creating a "wall of separation" between church and state.."

Jefferson's view on the separation of church and state emphasizes the need for a clear boundary between religious institutions and government to ensure freedom of belief and prevent the establishment of a state religion. He believed that this separation protects individual liberties, allowing people to practice their faith without interference from the government. This principle is rooted in the idea that both religion and governance function best when they operate independently, fostering a pluralistic society where diverse beliefs can coexist. Ultimately, Jefferson's stance advocates for a secular government that respects and upholds religious diversity.

The function of separation of powers is to prevent any one branch of government from gaining too much power and to ensure a system of checks and balances. By dividing government responsibilities among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, each branch can limit the powers of the others, promoting accountability and safeguarding individual liberties. This framework helps to protect democratic governance and maintain the rule of law.
