Nationalism is a strong and deep consensus among a large amount of the population that ones country is superior in many ways over other countries. Nationalism does not necessarily mean aggression against other nations. It can be, however, it not need be. The most outstanding examples of extreme nationalism are as follows, but not all inclusive. A. The Roman Republic and Empire; B. the British Empire; C. France, especially under Napoleon; D. the Spanish empire in the New World. In the the 20th century, Germany under Hitler, Italy under Mussolini, and yes the British Empire as it existed well into the 20th century. The communism of the USSR was based to a great extent upon nationalism as well as Imperial Japan. The list is quite long so I have supplied information about a few nations that had nationalism among its population. Once again, the concept of nationalism is a deep pride in ones country, however, this does not mean it will begin a war. Nationalism is successful in uniting a people in a radical love for ones country.
