for the past 12 years Democrats have controlled both houses of the state legislature. They have been in complete control of setting the legislative agenda and appointing the membership of every legislative committee, including those that deal with health care, transportation, education, aging, public safety, budget, taxes, and revenue.

The results of the November 2, 2010 election indicate that there will be 51 Democrats and 29 Republicans in the new Assembly. Members serve two-year terms with a three term limit. The State Senate will have 24 Democrats and 14 Republicans with 2 vacancies. Senators serve four-year terms with a two term limit.
No state IS a political party. The Democratic Party, the Republican Party and several others all have operations in every state of the union.
