What things are not causes for a nation to become imperialistic?

1) Weak Power of Projection: If a country lacks the army, technology, or neighbors who can be subdued, the country simply cannot do imperialism and, therefore, does not engage in the project.

2) Domestic Opposition: If the people within a country do not want an expansionist foreign policy, they can vote down imperialism.

3) Resource Self-Sufficiency: If a country produces all of basic resources it needs, there is no reason to invade other places and expend the manpower to unearth those same resources somewhere else.

4) Better Results from Trade: If a country has good trade relations with Another Country that produces a needed resource, trading for that resource is far less expensive than forcibly wresting that resource from its host country.
