The common person! People are tired of the lifers in our Government it's time to have our Senators and Congressmen "term limits" like the President! Then I would be willing to consider one or the other.

This is why we have the problems we do today. I believe our founding fathers wanted people to serve their Government and then move on not make it there life.

Is the senator above the governor?

The Governor is the executive authority of a state and is not part of the United States Senate. When a senator's seat becomes available, the U.S. Constitution specifies that the executive authority of the affected state nominates a temporary senator until the next election.

Which former Presidents of the Unites States were former unpopular Governors?

State governors who went on to become president all were popular in their home state. They all had political opponents, of course, and you can surely find people who will tell you how bad they were as governor. William Howard Taft, who was appointed governor of the conquered Philippines, was likely unpopular with some of the natives. Similarly, Andrew Johnson who was appointed military governor of Tennessee after that state was forced back into the union, probably would not have won a popularity contest there at that time, although he was later elected as US Senator.

Is the oldest senate the president of the senate?

No, the President Pro Tempore is generally the Senator in the majority with the most seniority. In some cases this is the oldest senator, but more likely it's the longest serving senator (although I do believe Senator Byrd is the oldest currently serving senator).Under the US Constitution, the Vice President of the United States is the President of the Senate. In modern times, the Vice President does not actually preside over the Senate, except on the most rare of occasions or when his vote may be needed to break a tie.In the absence of the Vice President, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate (or his/her designee) presides. By tradition, the most senior senator of the majority party is the President Pro Tempore of the Senate. Presently, that is is Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia. Sen. Byrd is also the oldest and longest serving senator.

Who is in charge of the Senate when the vice president is not acting as president of the Senate?

The senate elects a president pro tempore who is the longest serving majority Senator. There are also majority and minority Senate leaders. Unless there is a vote and a tie occurs, it does not matter much who chairs the Senate and members take turns presiding . If a tie vote seems likely, the vice- president will be there more than likely.

Did Calvin Coolidge want to become president?

He was added to the ticket as vice-president because he was governor of Massachusetts and had worked had for the party. I do not think he had any great desire to be President, although, of course, by accepting the nomination of vice-president, he knew the possibility existed. After he became President, he was the logical choice of his party to run in 1924 and he agreed to do so, probably because he was confident that he could do as well as any one else as President and was more likely than other Republican to be elected.

Why did Andrew Jackson want to be the president of the US?

He was not someone who wanted to be President at an early age. He retired from public service after serving in both Houses of Congress in order to pursue his private ventures. After the War of 1812 called him into military service and he became a famous war hero, his friends and supporters pressured him to run for Senator and President. Why did he want to be President? -- I would say, only because he came to know the other men who were most likely to become president if he did not run and he feared what they might do to the country .
