Some people make no money at all being a vertebrate paleontologist, while others make a decent living. The one thing that is pretty certain is that you won't get rich being a paleontologist. Most people do Paleontology because they really enjoy it, rather than to make a lot of money.

They surely do! Your salary would depend on what though. If you become a paleontologist you will likely either work for an oil company to help find oil through traces of microfossils (but you would ned to specialize in microfossils... and those jobs are becoming scarce), or you would likely end up teaching at a University. Now, if you do get into the subject, you may also publish some books, which may give you a bit of money too.
