They have shallow waters because when you have to do the final quest(trip to the summer den) you need to carry your pups across the river 2 times. (if you have Bison Creek Cutoff den.) If you don't need to cross the river on your trip to the redenzvous site, you specifically do NOT need to use it It was meant for the people who had chose that den (including me.)

The yellow circle indicates your territory. If you don't settle at one of four den sites, it will not appear. Once you've chosen your den site, you'll be able to use the 'P' key to mark territory affected by a certain radius of your chosen den area; you can't mark any area outsideyour designated territory area.If you chose the Slough Creekeast creek den site (not to be confused with Bison Peak Cutoff!), you might not see the indicator. It's a bad idea to settle at Slough Creek's East Creek den! It is the glitchiest territory in the game which has not been fixed.

There are four dens in WolfQuest on Slough Creek. One is a rock-like den that's over on Saddle Meadows, one is another rock-like den on Aspen, one is a tree den over by Bison (the place, not the animals, hehehe), the last one (this is the "secret" den) is in the middle of the one near Bison and the river. How do you get to the rendevous site quick on WolfQuest?
It really depends on which den you chose at the beginning of the game. The longest route to the rendezvous site if you chose Aspen Heights, the shortest route to the rendezvous site if you chose Saddle Meadows, leaving the most challenging and medium route as Slough Creek and Bison Peak Cutoff dens. I say "challenging" for Slough Creek and Bison Peak Cutoff because you are required to evade stranger wolf pack territory by crossing at Sandbar crossing, following the river and crossing again north of the elk hunting ground. Given the proximity between the summer den site and Saddle Meadows, as well as the fact you only have to cross the river once and have fewer predator encounters (including the eagle), it is safe to say that the densite is the fastest route. In regards to speeding up the trip with your pups, having a full food-for-pups meter helps a lot. Be cautious where bodies of water are concerned, as there is a slight chance your wolf's mate may drop pups in the river due to their AI. The fewer pups you have on your final journey, the quicker it will be.
