Quite simply it is the study of the mind. It could be human or another animal, it could mean consciousness or not. Most sciences that concern thought or cognitive abilities are considered Psychology. One distinction is Sociology however, that deals with behavior in groups as opposed to the individual as is often the case in Psychology.
