We train our kids not to lie. We set up honor codes. We swear to uphold and defend the constitution of the united states. But we learn very quickly that telling the truth, can be painful. That others often advance over those who only give lip service to the honor code. Those of us who can name how many amendments in the constitution let alone repeat any part of it are very few indeed, yet most government employees have sworn to defend . My dictionary

defines integrity as Strict Personal honesty, so as long as you know you are lying to avoid punishment, you are being honest with yourself. You have a responsibility to your welfare and personal safety first, then to the next in the chain of command. That chain will change over time, parents, family, school, work, country, wife, child. First we must survive before we can be of service to others.
