Does psychology influence sociology?

That depends on how the question is meant. If the question is taken in the clinical sense, meaning "Does the study and practice of psychology by psychologists and psychiatrists influence sociology?" then the answer is possibly no, it has some, but little influence on a large culture or social group, considering that the a country is composed of a culture or sociological group. As that does little to shape human behavior over the larger scale, and that human behavior is what forms the way a society moves to make the forces that mold and influence. As example the society we see in Botswana as differentiated from that of, say, England, or the British.

However if the question is on the broader scale, asked of influence, such as "Does the psychology of a human in a culture or the grosser psychological makeup of those in a defined culture influence sociology?" Then the answer is a definite yes, as that is what sociology is. The study of a social make up, a culture, and how they function. Individuals who define a culture, when they are psychologically similar, yet differ substantially from another culture, are the minute parts that help define the whole, and the study of the whole--as a study of ant colonies might define each differing species--defines that particular society.

Well, roughly defined anyway. This can be picked apart, and I can too, if I had the time. Please, if you do pick this apart, could you do it as, correctly defining, producing clarity, correcting errors and adding to the answer rather than (as is such a problem in America) attempting to make the original author seem a total jerk, wrong, stupid, or some such unnecessary slam, mainly to make yourself seem better, above, superior to, et. al. I often see this is children where it may be a product of growth. In America, however, too often it is done by adults, who it seems feel a need of some type to make their social rise on the backs of others with no concern at all for them.

There is some good in mild competitiveness as it brings out the best in people. This newly arising American manner of making the original or last person seem inferior or even terrible, is not necessary however. All it does is promote infighting and an antagonistic attitude that is becoming a prevalent portion of the way Americans relate.

And no, this is not to protect my sagging ego. My ego is solid enough to be considered bulletproof. Please don't go there. That foolishness is almost worse than the above.

The point is that such attempts at destroying others is not helpful to our society. It is the product of the poor psychological make up in America. Over the years, achieving nearly everything we expected in life, has made us decadent. A decadence that borders on apathy. We have little concern for others, and we could care less what happens to them. This has caused the destruction of the family unit, and is the precedent for our country soon repeating history, for this is what happened in Rome before that Mongol hoard decided to take from those who had too much and didn't care for or about anyone else. And take they did.

Above is both an answer to the question as well as a present day example of how the individual psychological makeup of persons within a society can form the structure and movement of that society--as well as it's ruin.
