It helps if you have a sentence at the start saying what you want to get done in the paragraph. For example, if I was writing an essay on why tacos are good for you, and I wanted a paragraph talking about how tacos include all the major food groups, I could say just that. "One reason tacos are good for you is because they include all major food groups." That gives you an idea about what sort of details you should put in. In my taco example, one detail I might give is "The major food groups are fruit, vegetable, dairy, meat, and grain. Tacos have lettuce, tomatoes (which are fruits), sour cream, beef or chicken, and a wheat or corn shell." This is a long-ish detail, and you can have realy short ones, too, but a good rule of thumb is to have at least 3 good, juicy ones per paragraph.
