Depends on the situation, really. Perhaps in their mind they are playing their own game. Like, for instance, if you really want to see them and they are coming up with exsuces every single time. If i were you, Id think about an aspect of your life that interferes with thiers and play them at their own game. Be sneaky and sly about what you really plan on doing, and they will never know a thing.
