I found and excellent set of books, MENTAL EFFICIENCY SERIES from Funk and Wagnalls Company. Published in 1915, it will do some online searching to find I suppose but it contains an excellent volume called TIMIDITY How to Overcome it.
The main point I got from the book was the recognition of one's worth wherein it is written "He does not realize that his being so uncommunicative makes it difficult to give himself the due credit for his knowledge and his intelligence."
So, it starts with trying not to be so self-conscious about what others are thinking about you as for the most part, most people are very self-centered and concentrating about themselves and not really overly concerned about others.
Realize that you are just every bit as good as others and that if you fear no one will like you or that they will laugh at you, relaize that everyone has had this fear one time or another. All it takes is a small smile and hello to open the world of new friendships and build a strong self-esteem. If a person does not respond, so what, move on and keep smiling. Soon enough you will find that people do respond to kind smiles and hello's. And soon will will find your timidity overcome and behind you.
Reserved, timid, bashful.
Not necessarily. "Timid" typically implies shyness or a lack of confidence, but it is not inherently negative. Some people may see timidity as a positive trait, such as being cautious or thoughtful. It all depends on the context and perspective.
Yes, there is a difference. When an individual is shy, they are easy to embarrass and reluctant to converse with others. They tend to not like being the center of attention and dislike to be at hectic areas or social gatherings and dislike public speaking. When someone is timid, they are frightened of specific events, places, animals, objects, etc. They also often lack self assurance and have low confidence and courage in themselves. However, they tend to overlap one another and a person may often have aspects of both and won't apply to all.
Not normally ... the descriptor is "timid". However, if the person were extremely interested, or involved in, say, the study of timidity, one could say he or she is "the timidity person" (as in "the heart surgeon", or less technically "a motorbike person").
Well u do it in time... im not very asertive myself and im really timid but my mum was the same and as she got older she became more confident with herself so really its building your own confidence :)
