God's Word tells us: "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only EVIL continually." (Gen.6:5)
Of course, man doesn't see himself that way; subsequently, the answer is: "Man by nature is EVIL, but he likes to THINK he's GOOD."
Steven Weinberg, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist, made this statement in his book "Facing Up: Science and Its Cultural Adversaries." Weinberg was highlighting the potential negative impact of religious beliefs on individuals' behavior.
well, everyone does evil in their lifetime--it's in our nature. A person can be a good person because you trust them, they are virtuous, haven't gone to jail, you know, just a good dude. But that good dude can mess up, he can get really angry, and do something he'll regret later. A big difference between good and evil people is that good people have a conscience, and regret the bad things they did. Evil people do bad things to others because they enjoy it, and don't regret it later.
The truth of God's Word in Romans explains that all humans have a conscience and desire self and group acceptance. Romans 2:13-15 "(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)" Further truth reveals that all humans are also subject to deceitful lusts. Ephesians 4:22 "That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;" Before God's involvement in our lives, we were “dead in trespasses and sins” and “by nature the children of wrath” due to Satan's influence. Ephesians 2:1,2 “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air…” By accepting Christ, a person receives the spirit of God within and can accomplish good works for God. Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Only when love is the motivator can a person renew his mind and replace the old man nature with the new man. Colossians 3:9,10 "Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:"
Oh, dude, the duality of man is like when you're feeling all good and chill one minute, and then suddenly you're hangry and ready to fight someone the next. It's that whole Jekyll and Hyde vibe, where people have both good and bad sides to them. So, like, we're all walking contradictions, man.
Man is an intellectual natural being, evolved from the nature. Nature is the maaya or an illusion created by the creator or almighty. Man is observing the nature in a scientific way(vigyaan) by his intellect. But he can use his wisdom to investigate internally(atma gyaan) for truth ( beyond death/rebirth) to dissolve maaya (aham brahmosmi). Since man wants to investigate more and more into the Universe to conquer it or take a lead on the Nature, Nature is taking its action to balance itself in terms of T-Sunaami,etc's.by Balaji
In some myths, man was a combination of the evil flesh of titans and the good heart of Dyonyousous
Man is composed of both good and evil, parts that can be physically separated.
Han Fei (or Han Feizi) is the Chinese philosopher who taught that the nature of man is evil.
No because it is man that has defined evil. In nature there is no such thing as good or bad - the shark kills the seal because it is hungry, not because it is evil. Evil is a label man has created to fit something that does not correspond to accepted societal dictates.
because given the opportunity to do whatever they wanted to other people, most chose evil over good.
Good and evil are human concepts. Animals simply are.

The concept of good and evil is subjective and varies among different cultures and individuals. Some argue that humans have an inherent sense of morality, while others believe that good and evil are learned behaviors influenced by society and environment. Ultimately, the presence of good and evil in human nature is a complex topic with no definitive answer.
Views on human nature vary, but some believe that people are inherently capable of both good and evil actions. Redemption or personal growth can lead individuals to make better choices, but the potential for both good and evil remains. It's important to recognize the complexity and individuality of human behavior.
do puritans view man as inherently good evil or somewhere in between ?
An evil man is one that does what is right in his own eyes, and evil is in his heart.Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool [is] right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel [is] wise.Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Also known as the devil.
