In dealing with my N I found several traits that seem to share a common link with what the experts say on the subject. 1. The N was hollow, emotionally speaking. By this I mean that you will be around the narcissist all the time and they will act as if you are their best friend in the world, however, you will never actually know them. The only thing you will ever know is the image that is projected to you. When you push for some kind of heartfelt answer you will not get it. You may receive an automated response or some anger, but no sadness or statements of empathy. You will feel that the N is empty inside. 2. The N is so selfish it will make you want to vomit. 3. The N, if intelligent, will blame you or make you feel that you are a bad person if you get to close, or you begin to point out that you have discovered their condition. In my case, I was led to believe that I was a sociopath with no ethics. I actually believed this because it came from an image, the N, that I was completely in love with. In my eyes she was the foremost expert on everything. This is called gaslighting, a method of control to make the victim seem crazy. In my case, it served as a method to distract me from seeing that the person was an N. 4. The N is very jealous of others that have one up on them, even you, unless of course they are receiving some supply from you. They will come to "love" you if you are giving them something. 5. You will always feel drained after the experience because you will spend so much time thinking about what you have done wrong to wreck your "perfect" relationship with the N. The answer is that you have done nothing wrong, you just serve no more purpose to the N. 6. The N will make it feel like there is something great on the inside waiting for you if you just do or say the right things. The truth is that you will never get into their heads, until the day when you find out they have NPD. It is like never getting into the party of a lifetime that everyone is already at. There is nobody at the party when it comes down to it. 7. The N fakes emotions, like they care about you, love you, etc. They may cry some crocodile tears, act distressed when you are moving, etc. Don't expect a kiss or hug though because they don't want to touch you. Quite the contradiction. 8. The N will give you no closure once the relationship has come to an end. You will be left with nothing after all that time. When you try to address the inconsistencies you will be treated like you are crazy for trying so hard to keep the relationship burning. 9. The narcissist hates giving to others, they hate buying gifts or helping others out in any way.
