The concept of the cognitive school of thought is that human beings absorb information from the environment to their senses and then they process this information mentally. This process entails organization, manipulation, storage as well as relating it to information that had been stored previously. A lot of the behaviors of people are determined by the way they think. The decisions, perceptions and memories are influenced by past knowledge and beliefs. Psychological disorders like depression can therefore be analyzed better through understanding the thought patterns of people By Emily Muhandia, Kenya
The hormic school of psychology, developed by William McDougall, focused on the study of purposive behavior and goal-directed actions in individuals. It emphasized the role of instincts and emotions in shaping behavior and believed that individuals are driven by a combination of inherited tendencies and environmental influences. The school aimed to understand how these factors interact to influence human behavior and experiences.
The biological school of thought places emphasis on the role of biological processes and structures, including heredity, in explaining human behavior. This type of behavior is influenced by our bodies.
The school of thought that emphasized the purpose of behavior in psychology was functionalism. Functionalism focused on understanding how mental processes and behavior serve a purpose or function in helping organisms adapt to their environment. Key figures associated with functionalism include William James and John Dewey.
