I think responsibility is a great way of building self esteem as well as avoiding the negatives. Being trusted with a responsible task and being of service to others is an excellent way of recognizing one's self worth.
I try to hold positive thoughts daily: instead of the glass being half empty, I consider the glass to be half full.
