According to one 2006 small Ontario Canada study of 100,000 participants, males have a slight IQ advantage in spatial concepts while females have a slight IQ advantage in verbal concepts.

However, all readers must understand basic concepts about research studies in general:

1. A study using a small number of participants may produce unrecognized errors and studies require more than statistics.

In the Ontario study, we might overlook gender expectations and how that upbringing might affect gender differences. As one well-known issue, females have typically been less educated in math and science, and more educated in reading, composition, and verbal comprehension.

Males receive more attention around math and spatial concepts. So just the lifelong practice and gender expectations could explain "gender differences" in certain subjects or skills; it may be less about IQ "advantages" and more about upbringing and emphasis in prior education.

4. All studies may contain researcher bias.

5. All "valid" studies must be reproduce-able. Different researchers should be able to use the same research criteria and research questions, and arrive at the same conclusions as the original research. This is why articles describing a research study go to great lengths to describe the specifics of each study, so other scientists can review what was done, asked, observed, recorded, etc. and replicate the study.
