Prejudice means judging a person without really knowing them (pre-judging). Racism means being prejudiced because of their race.

All racists are prejudiced, but not all people who are prejudiced are racists. You can be prejudiced against men or against women, against old people or young people, or against fat people or thin people. Racists just look at skin color, eye shape, and other traits that tell your race.

People who are prejudiced are ignorant, and they make these judgments because they don't understand the other person. Educated people are not prejudiced because they know that all people are basically the same.

Prejudice behavior involves preconceived opinions or attitudes towards a person or group based on stereotypes, without necessarily acting on those beliefs. Racism, on the other hand, involves prejudice combined with systemic power dynamics, leading to discrimination and marginalization of individuals or groups based on their race. In simple terms, prejudice can be personal bias, while racism has broader societal implications.

Racism is the belief that some races are better. Prejudice is acting upon preconceived notions, and has more to do with stereotypes and taking action based upon them. So a person can be a racist without acting upon it, but there is seldom a racist person who doesn't act upon it at some level.

Are white Americans racist?

they'd like to think they aren't but I feel as they have some views of a racist type nature. They also believe in a huge amount of stereotypes about other ethnicities based on false facts. I wouldn't exactly call them pure racists, but they sure aren't friendly to non-whites and come off as they think they are "better" than anyone who isn't "white". I wouldn't define them as the textbook definition of a racist, but I would say many of them are quite ignorant and misinformed.

Why is stereotyping dangerous?

Stereotyping is dangerous because it can lead to discrimination, prejudice, and unfair treatment of individuals based on characteristics such as race, gender, or ethnicity. It oversimplifies complex identities and perpetuates harmful biases that can negatively impact people's opportunities and well-being. Additionally, stereotyping can prevent individuals from being seen and valued for their unique qualities and abilities.

This can lead to negative attitudes, behaviors, and biases towards individuals based on characteristics associated with their group. Stereotypes can also reinforce existing power dynamics and inequalities, perpetuating social division and hindering intergroup relations.
