This is perhaps the most interesting, and difficult, question in Answers.com!
Neuroscientists think that the mind is a result of the operations of the brain, but they are not sure which operations, or even which part of the brain. We don't even know whether only humans have minds, or only mammals. My guess is all mammals have minds because they have a special brain region called the neocortex. This is largest in humans, and maybe humans have "more" mind than other mammals. It's possible, but uncertain, that one day computers will have minds.

The mind is not any state of matter. The mind is an epiphenomenon of the electrobiochemistry happening in the unbelievably complicated network of neurons, myelin, neurotransmitters, neuromodulators, neuroregulators, hormones, etc. that make up the about three pounds of largely fatty tissue enclosed in our bony skull that we refer to as a brain.
It's estimated that about 5% of our thinking, decision making, and actions are controlled by our conscious mind, while the remaining 95% is influenced by our subconscious mind. This means that a large part of our behaviors, beliefs, and emotions are driven by subconscious processes that we may not be fully aware of.
Another word for psychokinesis is telekinesis. A phrase that depicts both words clearly is "mind over matter", which is to say the control of material objects with the power of the mind.

Descartes arrives at his distinction between mind and matter through his method of doubt, where he questions the certainty of all his beliefs. He concludes that while the existence of the external world may be uncertain, the existence of his own mind as a thinking thing is indubitable. This leads to his famous formulation of the mind-body dualism.
