There are lots of different approaches to 'Psychological problems'. The question should be 'which research strategy is used with Psychological problems?' as the scientific empirical method is what science is...if you follow my meaning.
Psychological problems can be approcahed using descriptive, correlational, true experimental or quasi-experimental research methods.
The scientific method can and has been appliedto the problems of society, human behavior, economics security, race relations, and world peace. In doing so, the social scientist tries to eliminate variables & prejudices and also thus strives instead for a factual, logical, and open minded attitude that can lead to a better society.
Homosexuality used to be categorized as psychological disorder. But now, homosexuality is no longer categorized as psychological disorder. It's just a matter of sexual preferences and it is not a disorder.

This method is primarily used for diagnosing and treating a problem case. The clinical method is directed towards the study of individual behavior , whereas experimental and differential methods are generally used to investigate general behavioral facts. The concept of a clinical method is included in the concept of clinical psychology which is the art and technology of dealing with the adjustment problems of the individual for purposes of his optimum social adjustment and welfare.

Additionally, ethical concerns can arise when conducting research on human subjects, leading to debates about the methodologies used in studying human behavior.
