Because they have been lied to so many times they no longer trust the people that they should be in a position to trust. Also, people with hidden agendas, such as oil companies, could have and have had people on their payroll specifically to disseminate false or misleading information, another form of lying, in order to protect their company's interests in not wanting to develop competing power sources, such as nuclear energy.

Fear is a natural emotion that evolved to help keep humans safe from potential threats. It can be triggered by real danger or by perceived threats, such as failure or rejection. Fear activates the body's stress response and prepares it to react to the situation at hand.

Fear (any type) is rooted in the unknown. When we do not know what will happen now or in the future, it creates panic, fear, and feelings of lack of control.

Fear in everyday life

No one can completely control all aspects of life. From housing to employment to finances, fear can become a constant companion in a fast-changing world. People desire stability and peace, versus instability and chaos.

Many people do not realize that, underlying fear, is the fear of change. If they are confident they can cope with change, fears lessen.

Fear at home

Unfortunately, many women and children live in daily fear at home when the adult relationship has failed or is in a continual state of violence and chaos. Women do not do themselves any favor by staying in an abusive relationship. Shelters can help a woman plan her escape, if she chooses.

Women should know that most threats of violence do end up in violent acts. Acts of violence are not mistakes; a woman should not ignore an act of violence or a violent outburst and think it will not happen again. Get help so you can reduce your daily fear level.

Fear in the workplace

Not only do people fear being laid off, being outsourced, or fired, the workplace has also become scenes of violence for many people. Conflicts over parking space, work space, salaries, and advancement add to strife and to general fear. For people who've experienced or witnessed workplace violence, or family violence brought to the workplace, it must seem like going off to war when they enter their place of employment.

Employers are increasingly trying to tighten security, educate employees about personal safety in the workplace, and to prevent workplace violence. Workers who feel unsafe and insecure about personal safety cannot focus on their jobs.

Rather than draw the curtain of secrecy tighter, women living a potentially violent experience with a spouse, boyfriend, or "ex" should make their employers aware of the individual so that extra precautions can be taken.

Employees who recognize warning signs in their peers should report disgruntled employees so that the employer can act to keep everyone safe.

Financial fears

Financial fear is difficult to modify because there are no quick and easy answers. Many people live paycheck to paycheck. They do not see how they can break the cycle they are in, and have little room within their finances.

However, no matter how little you earn, you can begin to change your situation. First, decide on a small amount you can comfortably save. If the amount is only $1.00 or $5.00, that's okay. Open a second bank account, and set up an automatic bank transfer from your main account to your second account. If you can only save $5.00 every 2 weeks, that is $10.00 a month... and $120.00 a year. Once the money is in the second account, it cannot be touched for any reason; you must make a commitment to yourself to maintain your goal.

Look for ways to reduce your spending. There are many excellent articles on the internet that suggest ways to control spending.

Be willing to dream again, and commit to goals to make your small dreams happen.

Spirituality and the fear of death

Not having the knowledge of what WILL happen throughout life, during the dying process, at death, and after death all bring up frightened feelings.

The solution is to, first, develop your faith, and second, to know what The Bible (or your religion) says about what's going to happen after death. The truth and not myths.

You must know the GOD you worship and, you and GOD should have a relationship.

Christian beliefs about dying

JESUS said, "Come to Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." -Mathew 11:28. So the LORD calls his flock, and will comfort His children through all of life and the time of physical death.

Other beliefs about dying

Regardless of the religion you choose, you must know the tenets of the religion and more importantly, what you personally belief. Hindus and "New Age" groups believe in reincarnation. Muslims and Jews believe your final resting "location" in Heaven or Hell depends on how you lived your life.

Atheists do not believe in God, heaven or hell, but to combat any fears they hold about dying, they must somehow resolve their own fears. Many atheists take a scientific approach in thinking that dying is a natural progression marking the end of "life/living" and that because there is nothing after "life/living", they believe they would have no fears. Death would be final, the end of breath and thought; since fear is thoughts, fear is a useless waste of time during the dying process.

Whatever creates your fear...

Regardless of what causes your fear, the best solution is to get to know "it"---your fear--- as well as you know your own name. Ponder it; think about it in all its forms. Make lists of what causes your fear(s) and a list of what would make it a non-fear. For example, if you fear the lack of money, begin to take control of your finances, save what you can, and limit your non-essential spending. If you fear you'll "one day have a heart attack", begin now to control your lifestyle by exercising more, reducing salt and fat in your diet, and become educated about heart health.

The more action you take about your fear, you can only improve the situation and reduce the fear.
