Why do some people make fun of others because of their language?

There are a number of reasons why they may make fun of someone because of how they speak, including:
1. Racism.
2. Xenophobia, regionalism, or even the belief they do not belong where you are. Even in the same country, there are people in one area who make fun of people from another area because of their accent or the exact dialect they speak.
3. Just because the person is different. These bullies might target one person for their native tongue and another for their weight.
4. They have difficulty understanding the person, and that makes them feel uncomfortable. So they may figure if they make fun of the person enough, they won' t have to deal with the person.
5. In some places, classism may be the problem. In a country where multiple languages are spoken, there might be an upper class language and a commoner's language. Even when there is an official language, people of a lower income class might have their own vernacular, their own slang, and use more profanity. So people who speak a certain language or use certain words may be targeted based on their perceived socioeconomic group.
