There are many reason. It could be because they think it is cool. They think, "Oh cool, everybody else is doing it maybe I should try." Perhaps they are stuck in a situation where it is either do the drug or whatever or get beat up.

Some of it goes back to their upbringing. If they have strict discipline and are taught not to give in nor care what others think, they tend to be more able to resist. But even then, it is still possible to fall. You cannot develop inner strength just from lectures. Personal experience and mistakes are often required.
